IN the final matches of their division our women’s team achieved a full 10 point haul, beating Scottburgh 34-5 and 17-13, then later The Bell 21-13 and 24-9.
This took their total to a commendable 29 points which secured the top spot in their league.

Playing away, also on Saturday, our men were truly hammered by a Scottburgh team who played outstanding bowls winning 5-0.

The club’s women trips competition was won by a countout, two teams finishing on 4+15.
Sandy O’Donoghue, Linda Stead and Avril Black took the honours from runners-up Moira Millard, Anne Williamson and Claire Wilhelm.
Session prize went to Irene Hutton, Zelda Wood and Trish Tweedie, scoring 2+9.

In the men’s section Kevin O’Donoghue, Tony Hoggins and Dave Coward pulverised their opposition, winning by 20 shots, to claim the second session prize sponsored by Scottfin Insurance Brokers.
Runners-up Brian Kidd, Chris Geyer and Alister Ferguson won Atlanta Spur vouchers scoring 4+15.
Taking Atlanta Spur vouchers back to Umkomaas after winning the competition on 4+17 were Rod Forte, Byron Mathias and Edgar Raw.

Thanks to the sponsors without whom local bowls will be a no show and to Avril Black, Claire Wilhelm, Linda Stead, Lynn Geils and Joanne Spenceley who catered for both competitions.
Jerry Davey’s rock cakes are at last off the menu.
The Christmas party and prize-giving was an outstanding success due to the hard working organising team and Umdoni Golf Club Restaurant who once again proved to be a great venue.
‘Sister’ Jerry Davey and ‘Pastor’ Mickey Morrison provided some light-hearted entertainment before our ‘Swanzelas’ took to the stage with their ballet routine.
Kevin White, John Aldhouse, Mally Swanby, Alan Suter and Dave Geils looked magnificent in their tutus, tiaras, tights, wigs and bras.
Their ballet shoes included gum boots, hiking boots and takkies.
A total of 32 bowlers arriving for tabs on Friday with about a dozen croquet players and a few visitors is indicative of our members’ support for their club, is it for the bowls, croquet or the camaraderie afterwards?
