Herald Fishing: Sharks abound as summer fishing hots up
The wide variety of fish being caught over the festive period has also included grey sharks and shad.
The heat of summer is starting to play a major role in the decision to go fishing.
If you do venture out on a hot day, remember to prepare yourself.
If you are fishing on a beach, pack in a pair of shoes to walk on the hot sand, blisters on the feet are not fun!

So far the weather has perfect and the summer fish still on the bite.
With the discoloured water from the rivers going into the sea a lot of sharks will be around.
Reports are in of anglers fishing off Stiebel Rocks in Pumula and Orange Rocks in Uvongo who have hooked a lot of sharks over the past week.

Anglers have also caught some ribbon tail, hammerhead sharks, diamond skates and sand sharks.
The wide variety of fish being caught over the festive period has also included grey sharks and shad.
The reports indicate that shad have been caught all along the coast.
Please stick to the limits of four a day!
Bronze bream are still on the bite, but it’s getting very late into their season, so now’s the time to bag a last one for the year perhaps.
Cracker shrimps work well as bait in the discoloured water for bronze bream, as well as stone bream.

Those fishing in the estuaries have had a lot of fun catching kingfish, rock salmon and perch.
The past few weeks has been very good for many anglers across most facets of freshwater fishing.
Tilapia and bass have been ‘frenzied’ and anglers targeting these magnificent fighters has had a fabulous time of it at many of the local dams.
There has not been too much to report on from the offshore anglers, other than that the tuna have been on the run and some decent bottom fish have also been caught.
