Selvin stuns Siyanda in snooker final

Now that the season is over many players are already back on the green baize, honing in on their skills to become champions for the next year.

The 2019 South Coast snooker season came to an end on Friday last week with the much anticipated singles championship final between Selvin Moodley and Siyanda Nkonyeni.

Spectators were given an opportunity to watch exciting snooker and much support was given towards the newcomer Nkonyeni but experience and talent eventually overpowered youth.

Selvin proved once again that snooker is not only about potting balls but having an all round game with good safety play.

He went on to win the match six frames to two to become the South Coast singles snooker champion.

The awards evening took place at Margate Country Club last Saturday and players took the opportunity to relax and have some fun.

Siyanda Nkonyeni receives his award for player of the year from Anita Kruger.

Many players received awards for their outstanding achievements in the sport.

The award for the most improved young player went to Damon Schloms.

Most dedicated player award went to Collin Chetty.

The player of the year award was unanimously won by Siyanda Nkonyeni who featured well in the league and the knockout tournaments.

Doubles runners-up Eddie Redlinguys and Siyanda Nkonyeni receiving their award from Elna Fourie.

Tokens of appreciation awards were awarded to Flip Fourie and Gary Smith for their assistance in promoting snooker in the South Coast.

Now that the season is over many players are already back on the green baize, honing in on their skills to become champions for the next year.

The new season kicks off in February next year and the local snooker association will be directly affiliated to the SA Cue Sports Federation and SA Snooker.

This will give our local youth and talented players an opportunity to participate in all national snooker tournaments on behalf of the Ugu District Snooker Association.
