Off the Hook: ‘Wot’ a big catch for the captain

Wikus van Kraayenburg was thrilled to have reeled in a fine 18kg mussel cracker.

IT has been a great start to the year for shore fishermen as the shad have been both plentiful and on the bite.

Game fish such as tuna and dorado have been scarcer of late, but there have been some good catches of bottom fish reported.

Recently Wotalotigot’s captain Wikus van Kraayenburg was thrilled to have reeled in a fine 18kg musselcracker.

Pennington Ski-boat Club held its annual prize-giving at the club house recently.

Prizes included the skipper with the heaviest bag one day in comp award, which went to Chris Gemmell.

Fisherman Ivan Bezuidenhout from Rustenburg, with the 8kg dusky he caught from boat Wotalotigot.

Heaviest game fish in comp junior division was awarded to Ryan Pellew, with heaviest game fish of the year for ladies going to Lucy Allison.

Ryan Antel walked off with the biggest released fish for the year award.

Several other prizes were awarded and all recipients are congratulated.
