Bowls and braai challenge gets ‘complicated’

There were wins and losses on both sides, so there are going to be more 'deciders' to come.

THERE were no monthly competitions scheduled at the club this week but there was plenty of action.

In addition to the normal tabs-in games the club hosted the KBA mixed pairs competition last Saturday and some fairly good bowls was on display.

Thanks go to members who helped the event go well, including the umpire Jan Vosloo, the ladies in the kitchen Lyn Seymour, Ann Kerr and Marie Vosloo, barmen John Uttley and Brian Dunderdale, and Barbara Fountain for doing the mathematics.

Last Sunday the club was the centre of dispute when various ‘challenges’ were to be sorted.

The gauntlet had been thrown and the teams squared off, with such ‘knee trebling’ names as the ‘Grumbelly Old Men’ (perhaps that should be ‘grumbling old men’- but on second thoughts), Renishaw Renegades, Renishaw Rebels, Lady Di girls and Scottburgh A and B, both ladies and men’s sides.

The tradition is lost in history (of sometime last week) when the idea was generated, but it being the end of the month and ‘braai time’, the whole ‘Complicated Competition’ was organised and the party started.

Most of the players were from Scottburgh BC, members and friends, but if you were there on the day, you could not escape being press-ganged into playing.

It was really great to see over 30 bowlers playing some very competitive games amid so much fun and laughter.

A great time was had by one and all, and there are threats that this event could happen again.

There were wins and losses on both sides, so there are going to be more ‘deciders’ to come.

Again, the action bowls is due to start in mid February.

This is a fun competition which will take place over five consecutive Friday evenings (a 5.30pm muster for a 6pm start) and due to start on February 14.

Please remember our funny weather and it can be very hot and humid, so take plenty of liquids and fluids and be careful out there.
