Brave fight from SKZN cricketers

The team struggled to get going due to the rain and wet field.

It was a spirited clash when Southern KZN took on first division log leaders, Clares Cricket Club, at the Port Shepstone County Club last Sunday.

The Clares team was bolstered by the addition of Proteas player, Suneran Muthusamy and it was game on.

Southern KZN were sent in to bat and struggled to get going due to the rain and wet field.

The team had a bad start, scoring just 30/5 early on.

“Raja Kazi tried to stabilise the innings as we anchored in, but the flow of runs was minimal, due to the excellent bowling and the inclement weather,” said team captain, Meshan Lanka.

Southern KZN collapsed and were bowled out for 123.

Captain Lanka scored 55, including one four and three sixes, one of which was bowled straight over the back of Muthusamy’s head.

Clares went into bat and thought it was going to be a quick run chase.

Southern KZN batsman Zak Ganie edges one while through slip and gully.

However Southern KZNl bowlers made it as difficult as possible.

Clares chased down the score, losing only one wicket but it took them 30 overs to do so.

“It was a great effort from our boys, and a good learning experience. This week, we face Chatsworth in an away fixture,” added Lanka.
