UGC ladies take on SA Amateur Champs

History was made this year as it’s the first time that the ladies and men’s SA Champs take place at the same time, on the same courses.

Umkomaas Golf Club is proud of its two Silver Division ladies, Sabiha Baucus and Natalie Singer, who have travelled up to Gauteng to compete in the 2020 SA Amateur Championships.

Competitions take place on both the east and west courses at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington, which promises to be a tough challenge.

We wish our ladies all the best for the 54-hole strokeplay tournament.

Weekly Results

Saturday was a first for Umkomaas with a betterball medal competition played.

Francois Rossouw and visitor Leon Brummer came out tops with a brilliant nett 62.

Husband and wife team of Willy and Sue Boucher also played sub-par with their nett 64, enough to count out Dave Kemp and Jacques Kirstein into third place.

“Mr Consistent” Wally Kent amassed 11 points to take the jackpot holes and visitors Leon Brummer and Peter West each bagged a 2-club.

Thirty players contested the Wednesday IPS competition, and conditions were good judging by the great scores.

Winning on 40 points was Peter Bond, followed closely by Willy Boucher who counted out Mike Lithgow on 37 points.

Derek Cowden scooped fourth place, also on a count-out, with 36 points.

Next Saturday’s game will be betterball bonus bogey and tee times are available from 10am.

English Pub Night – all welcome

#thefriendliestclub’s next social evening takes place this Friday, February 19, from 6.30pm.

It’s an English Pub Night with great music and sing-a-longs and we’re asking attendees to get into the mood by dressing “English”.

Delicious fish and chips is on offer for R55 per person, but booking is essential and can be made via Vlasta on 082 779 3553.
