Action hots up at Scottburgh Bowling Club
The mixed 2-4-2 and the next installment of ‘action bowls‘ takes place this Friday.
MOVING into February, there was quite a lot of activity at Scottburgh Bowling Club, starting with the men’s 2-4-2 competition last Thursday.
Winners on 4+17 were the side of Wayne van Nikkelen-Kuyper and Ivan O’Sullivan who were awarded vouchers from the Bell and Anchor.

Runners-up were Alistair Shaw and Brian Dunderdale with 4+10 – they won vouchers from the Coffee Lounge.
Second session prize-winners were Trevor Spring and Brian van Rooyen with a score of 2+13, who claimed the vouchers from the Shop on Scott.
Thanks to all sponsors for their generous awards, and to our women for the kitchen duty and for keeping scores ticking over.
The initial games of the ‘Business League’ began last Friday evening. As usual a great deal of fun was had by all and hopefully, with the cooperation of Eskom, bowlers will be able to continue with the current programme dates.
Thanks go to Anthea and Dave Jaap for the boerewors rolls, to Saowanee Whitehouse for her help, and of course, our bar manager John Rochford.

The club hosted the KBA Mixed Pairs Championship last Saturday and Sunday and those who were there witnessed some fairly spectacular bowls.
The weather was extremely hot and humid, but there was even hotter action on show and some very close games were played.
The semi and finals were played last Sunday and these were some of the best games of bowls witnessed for a long time.
At the end, the team from Hibberdene comprising Albert and Alida Munnik narrowly piped it by a single shot from Shane and Maureen from Riverside Club, but the real winners were those fortunate bowlers who managed to survive the weather.
Appreciation goes to those at the club who made themselves available for work behind the kitchen and the bar and the green staff who worked tirelessly to make the event a success. Well done.
Looking ahead to the rest of the month, we have the mixed 2-4-2 this Friday (21st), and the next installment of ‘action bowls‘ – remember it’s a 5.30pm muster for a 6pm start.
A number of club competitions are posted on the board, so members are asked please to give attention to these and list names as appropriate.
During this very hot and humid period, please remember to take plenty of liquids or fluids, and be careful out there.
Keep taking the grass.
