Rain and humidity doesn’t stop action at Scottburgh Bowling Club
The weather did not stop last Thursday afternoon’s tabs-in ‘voucher’ challenge and there was a good turnout of players.
IN a week that saw more than 120mm of rain, there was going to be some changes to the normal routine of play at the club.
However the weather did not stop last Thursday afternoon’s tabs-in ‘voucher’ challenge and there was a good turnout of players for the competition.

There were a number of very tight games and two teams drew with the same shot difference, which was resolved by taking the team with the highest score as winners.
The team comprising Trevor Spring, Bill Mason and John Irvine won vouchers for Scott Street Pharmacy.
The mixed 2-4-2 competition held last Friday once again saw a good number of players in attendance.
This month, winners on a massive 4+26 were the family side of Wayne and Gail van Nikkelen-Kuyper, who were awarded vouchers from the Bell and Anchor.
Runners-up were Byron and Sue Mathias from Umkomaas with 4+19 and they won vouchers from John Dory’s.
Second session prize-winners were Lada Cizek and Avril Smith with a score of 2+12 and they took the vouchers from Atlanta Spur.
Congratulations to all winners and all who participated – it was a very hot and humid day.
Thanks to all sponsors for their generous awards, to the ladies for kitchen duty, those keeping scores and the barman.
The second game of the ‘Business League’ was cancelled due to Eskom load-shedding last Friday, but will be back this week, provided there is power.
Looking ahead to next month (Wow! Where is the year going?) we have a fund-raiser planned for this coming Sunday (March 1) with a ‘bowls cricket’ match being organised.
Then we have normal monthly competitions set: the Ladies’ 2-4-2 (Wednesday, March 4), the Mixed Trips (Friday, March 6), the Men’s 2-4-2 (Thursday, March 12) and the Mixed 2-4-2 on Friday, March 20.
There are a number of clubs’ championship matches posted on the board, so members please give attention to these and put your names on lists as appropriate.
In this very hot and humid period, please be careful out there and take plenty of liquids or fluids – we don’t want members drying out too soon.
Keep taking the grass.
