Surfers impress at Ugu champs

It was a very busy day for all involved.

CHAMPIONS in 12 different divisions were crowned at the belatedly held Ugu Surfriders 2019 champs held at Scottburgh main beach last Saturday.

Conditions were tricky with a slight onshore breeze, but still giving some good surf and smaller decent waves for all age divisions.

The break however did not really deliver two decided peaks as hoped, and it made for some tricky navigation for the surfers in the main contest as well as the novices, who ran a trial concurrently.

A total of 22 heats were surfed with 52 surfer entries in various divisions in the main event as well as 16 heats with 26 frothing novices on podium two.

This made for some very good management skills from beach marshals as well as tabulators, plus some very alert judging throughout the day.

On the novice podium once again the Ugu juniors Maya Attfield, U18 and Jordy Boshoff, U18 stepped in and helped with judging under the watchful eyes of a qualified judge, giving them valuable experience.
