Viv Naicker is back with a bang

It was a great week’s golf for the region as the Southern Natal Nomads team emerged victorious overall.

THERE’S yet another reason to be very proud of our little club as Vivian Naicker, several times club champion, has returned to golf in spectacular fashion, being crowned the A Division winner at the Nomads Nationals held at East London Golf Club over the past week.

His win is particularly noteworthy considering he was practically bed-bound between October and January with a pinched nerve.

Thanks go to fellow club member and local chiro, Greg Thiel, for his professional assistance over the period.

Commenting on Facebook, Viv’s wife Fiona said “Greg’s been treating Viv with acupuncture all this time. Thank you so much for your home visits, patience and advice. I think ‘Bobby’ owes this win to you”.

It was a great week’s golf for the region as the Southern Natal Nomads team emerged victorious overall.

Another of our members, John Webster, was also part of the successful team.

The men’s Allerton League side played Midlands at Windsor this past weekend and came away 7-5 victors.

Thank you to Riek Jansen van Rensburg for arranging the smart sponsored shirts from Global Pact Airconditioning.

Congratulations to Natalie Singer and Sabiha Bacaus on their selection for South Coast Region golf team.

The pair will compete for the ‘Umdoni’ team, with Natalie selected as the team captain.

Their first match is scheduled to take place in Dundee on the first weekend in April and we wish them, and their team mates well for the 2020 edition of the Inter-region competition.

The first of the Wednesday Blue Tees competition kicked off this past week.

The IPS format, where everyone – men and women – all tee off the blue tees will take place on the second Wednesday each month for the year.

Monthly prizes are up for grabs and a running score will make players eligible for the overall prizes at the conclusion of the tournament.

Judging by the great scores, even the handicap sacrifices off the blue tees didn’t compensate for the distance advantage.

First place was scooped by F Brandon on 40 points. Sue Boucher came in close on 39 points for second place and Barrie Taylor secured third place on a count out from Willy Boucher with 37 points.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Wally Kent (4th), Warren Taylor (9th), Chris Viljoen (13th) and Bing Opie (17th).

Saturday’s competition was a betterball multiplier, one that can turn friends into enemies, ‘wink wink’.

Jacques Hulley and Riek Jansen van Rensburg’s combined 72 points saw them take first place. Bruce Sutcliffe and Kuben Naidoo came in second on 68 points.

Congratulations to Denise Nell whose number was drawn to win the liquor hamper.

Grateful thanks are extended to outgoing caterers Dawn and Derek Crookes who so generously sponsored this substantial raffle hamper to raise money for much-needed revamp in the club kitchen.
