Herald Fishing: Cob just what the doctor ordered
Keep things tidy and leave only your footprints.
Dr John-Rodger van Reenen of Southbroom, an orthopaedic surgeon, caught a cob on paddle-tail in the Southbroom area last week.
It measured 86cm and he caught it during low tide. In other news, there are some reports of bronze bream being caught just before the front came in.

Carp are few and far between but some good fish around the 8kg mark have come out up at Lake Eland, where it’s very cold.
Shad are still feeding quite nicely.

There are some reports of sardine shoals in the Eastern Cape waters.
There’s a video on one of the WhatsApp groups of some stunning sardine activity off Port St Johns.
The birds can be seen dropping out of the sky as they target the tasty fish.
Dolphins can be seen leaping out of the sea as well. It really is quite beautiful.
There’s the usual accompanying shark activity as well, but none seen above the surface of the water.
With this current cold snap and strong wind from the Cape, maybe another run will come our way.
Two whales were spotted off the backline at St Mike’s last Friday and have probably moved on by now, but they did seem to be enjoying the local waters.
While the fishing has generally been pretty good, perhaps excellent, what hasn’t been so great is the litter left behind by certain folk.
One reader, who phone in, was horrified at the amount of plastic and rubbish that was left on certain beaches.
