On a lighter note: 14 rules of football as seen by kids

Even in a casual game of fun football, there are still numerous 'rules' in place.

1. The biggest kid was usually the goalkeeper.

2. The owner of the ball decides who plays.

3. The one who is not picked is responsible for fetching the ball when it went out of play in order to play the next game.

4. When the owner of the ball became annoyed, it meant game over.

5. When you scraped your toe against a stone and you noticed blood, you quickly covered the area with sand as a form of first aid and carried on playing.

6. There was no off sides.

7. There was no referee.

8. There is a foul only if you fell and there was plenty of dust.

9. The two best players could not play in the same team.

10. If you were chosen last it meant you were not that good and you would remain in defence.

11. The best player was always in the same team as the owner of the ball.

12. To distinguish the two teams, one of the teams pulls off their shirts.

13. There was always a house which, when the ball was kicked there, is meant game over. So you had to be careful.

14. Game was usually only finished when it was so dark you couldn’t see the ball anymore.

Then, we all disperse in groups, teasing one another until we got home, only to face probably punishment by our parents for being late for supper.
