Track Torque: A stir in Styria

Man of the race award went to Sergio Perez, who also gave a great exhibition of his controlled but aggressive driving.

First of all, the weather in Austria stirred everybody up with a delayed and very wet qualifying session.

Secondly, we saw driving of an outstanding standard in wet or dry conditions.

It was very interesting to see some of the new and younger drivers like Lando Norris (again) and Williams’ driver George Russell very quick in the wet but it was the not-so-young Lewis Hamilton who came out tops in both qualifying and the race.

Hamilton’s victory was a class act and it took him to a well deserved 85th Grand Prix win.

Behind Lewis for a major part of the race we had a typically hard-charging Max Verstappen who made it very hard for Valtteri Bottas, when he caught up, to overtake the Flying Dutchman.

In fourth position after another very good drive was Verstappen’s teammate Alexander Albon, both Hondas chasing Mercedes power very hard, but still in need of a few more horses.

In fifth place after another great drive was the young Londoner, Norris. He really impresses me with a wonderful attitude, as well as some very exciting smooth driving in the wet or dry.

Man of the race award was given to Sergio Perez, who also gave us a great exhibition of his controlled but aggressive driving.

He made his teammate Lance Stroll and Daniel Ricciardo in the Renault work extremely hard.

It was very exciting to see all three cars go over the finish line in sixth, seventh and eighth places respectively, with less than half a second between them all.

Carlos Sainz and Danill Kvyat brought their McClaren Renault and Alphatauri (Toro Rosso) Honda home in the last two point scoring places, just one lap behind the leaders.

Without let up we continue across to Hungary this weekend at the tight but sweeping Hungaroring where overtaking is a bit more difficult. Exciting stuff.
