Golfers can now compete again

In other golf news, while club competitions are now allowed, premier, central and Allerton league have been cancelled for this year.

Port Shepstone Country Club will host the Beekman & Umthunzi Challenge on Friday, July 31.

It’s a five-week-of-Fridays month so there is no regular business day anywhere else.

In addition to the usual format of prizes, like what is done for business day, Umthunzi has sponsored chocolate hampers and bottles of ‘bubbles’ for closest to the pins.

The previous Wednesday’s competition was won by Lionel Peters on 40 points, four ahead of Santhos Baskali and Gary Vogt.

The business day last Friday was won by Marisa Stretch, Di Nadauld, Liana Klopper and Barbara Rousseau on 95 points.

Runners-up were Tom Pearson, Sheldon van der Merwe, Bevis Fairbrother and Lionel Peters on 91 points, followed by Norman and Shirley Jeffery, with Dave and Eileen Neilson on 90 points.

Sunshine Tour pro Trevor Fisher Jnr was a guest on the day, enjoying a round with Colin Nel.

Tom Pearson and Sheldon van der Merwe cleaned up last Saturday, winning on 48 points, three ahead of Ilze Steyn and Jennifer Duncan, as well as Jaco Janse van Rensburg and Rudi Steyn, who had an eagle on the 7th the day before.

In other golf news, while club competitions are now allowed, premier, central and Allerton league have been cancelled for this year.

It looks like most of the tournaments have been cancelled as well, with the hope that perhaps Interclub and Interzone could still be played, later in the year.

Locally, Southern KZN is looking at the possibility of playing the local handicap league and will come to a decision soon.
