Graham displays startlingly good lockdown golf game

There have been some encouragingly good scores at local golf courses over the past week.

At Port Shepstone Country Club, the Wednesday alliance was won by Chris Boyce, Greg Hornby, Albert dos Santos and ‘Casper’ on 95 points.

Runners-up were Eddie Ringo, Mark Smith, Charles and Jenny Hulley on 90 points.

The betterball last Saturday was won on 48 points by Tony Fairbairn and Colin Nel on 48 points, two ahead of Nick Wattrus and Graham Fabricius.

Graham carded a five under par 67 – not bad for his second round since before the lockdown.

In third place on 45 points were Cecelia Verster and Barbara Rousseau.

The Beekman & Umthunzi Challenge this Friday, which serves as a farewell to long-serving manager Carrie Pieterse, is fully booked.

However, there is still space for the monthly mug this Saturday (1st).

* At Southbroom Golf Club, Geoff Skelton again led the way in the Friday afternoon Chicken Run.

He carded 18 points, tied with Tony Westoby and Alex Crawford. One further behind was Malcolm Greenland.

The next day, Malcolm teamed up with Colin McKay, Clive Miller and Gary Purtell to win the alliance on 92 points.

Runners-up were Allyson Thomas, Lorraine Cook, Michelle van der Hoek and Jean Corfe on 90 points.

Third place went to Brian Blackstock, Geoff Skelton, Bob and James Thomas on 88 points.

The previous Wednesday’s competition was won on 48 points by Matthew brothers Derrik and Bruce.

Two adrift were John Fox and Charlie Watt, followed by Eric van der Spuy and Derek James on 44 points.

Tied for third on 43 points were Doug Butcher and Brian Richards, André Steyn and Craig Treherne, as well as Candida Amm and Val Volck.

* At Margate Country Club, the competition last Saturday was won on 45 points by Flip Fourie and Joe Espach, edging out Dolf Willemse and Rob Weyer by one point.

In third place on 43 points were Graeme Massam and Wayne Minnaar.

In the ladies section, the Connie’s Day betterball was won by Maureen Ogilvie and Connie McArthur on 45 points.

Runners-up were Margaret Taylor and Beryl Williamson on 44 points, counting out Una McLachlan and Wilna Olckers.
