Herald Fishing: ‘Biting off more than you can chew’
Fishing has been quieter but there have still been some interesting incidents.
Keen fisherman, Edward Bense (12) went fishing in the dam on the family property, Fiddlewood Farm in Margate on Monday morning this week.
There he found a large bass with a bream half swallowed in its mouth. Both fish were already dead when Edward found them.

The bream was stuck fast in the bass’s mouth and body and couldn’t be pulled out.Edward says that bass do eat smaller fish and have been going for the baby Egyptian goslings but he’s never seen anything like this before. “Clearly,” he said, “the bass bit off more than he could chew!”

Pro guide and captain Sean Lange (The Sardine) of is back in town for now, and will be operating the upcoming season right here in Port Shepstone.
He left Mozambique, due to current global affairs, where he has been hosting guests for the past couple of decades.
Sean has moved operations to his parent’s lodge at the Umzimkulu Marina, where all sorts of fish species are on offer.
He says it’s been really good in the estuary of late, as well as out to sea.
“There are enough marlin to keep me busy right here off Port Shepstone and the season is about to fire up,” he said.
