Great golf from Albert and Kai … and others

Now is a great time to get out on the golf course.

It would seem that golf is definitely picking up again after the lockdown, helped in no small way by some wonderful late winter weather.

* At Port Shepstone Country Club, the Beekman/Umthunzi Challenge alliance last Friday was won on 90 points by Anne Baldrey, Di Nadauld, Liana Klopper and Barbara Rousseau.

They counted out Frik van Zyl, Robin Shuttleworth, Kim and Dawn Howden.

Third spot went to Rudie Visagie, Thys Blom, Jaco and Hendrik Janse van Rensburg on 89 points.

The monthly mug the next day saw Albert dos Santos take first prize on nett 70.

Best gross went to Kai Hielckert on 74.

Stableford winner was Deucullen van der Merwe on 42 points, from Sheldon van der Merwe on 40 points.

A division honours went to Greg Hornby on nett 72, counting out Gavin van Wyk.

Dave Mee won the B division on nett 72, by one from Stewart Betts.

In the C division it was Johann du Plessis who triumphed on nett 71, three ahead of Chris Boyce.

The previous Wednesday’s betterball was won on 44 points by Daan Swanepoel and Jacky van Heerden.

* At Southbroom, the Wednesday competition was won by Bob and Allyson Thomas on 47 points.

There was a three-way tie on 46 points, shared by Roger Hissey and Roy Deakins, Colin McKay and Derek James, Karen Bridgeford and Heleen Hissey.

The Saturday alliance was won on 92 points by Colin McKay, Malcolm Greenland, John Fox and Clive Miller.

Runners-up on 91 points were Gerald FitzGerald, Paul Cole, Bob Clark and Heinz Seiser.

Three teams tied for third on 89 points, namely Bob O’Callaghan, Bob Thomas, Mike Lig and George Haswell 89 pts, Johan Wentzel, Anton Kohrman, Riaan Croucamp and Brian Jolliffe, and Craig Treherne, Russell Mackenzie, Leon van Schalkwyk and André Steyn.

Geoff Skelton completed a hat-trick of Chicken Run wins last Friday, scoring 21 points.

Malcolm Greenland matched him and they were followed by Riaan Croucamp, David Deminey and Van Zyl Greyling, all on 19 points.

* At Margate Country Club, the ladies played a medal and putt last Saturday, which was won by Dawn Howden on 73 points, counting out Wilna Olckers and Rino Rito.

The putting was won by Maureen Ogilvie with 29 putts.

In the men’s competition last Saturday, the winner was Doug Johnston on 41 points, followed by Pierre Malherbe and Derek Egerton on 37 points.
