Solid scores from golfers as spring approaches

Port Shepstone Country Club has elected a new golf committee.

Port Shepstone Country Club‘s main annual general meeting was held last night (Wednesday). Prior to this the new golf committee was elected and comprises captain Eddie Ringo, vice-captain Mot Moleele, secretary Barbara Rousseau, handicapper Ken Morris and members Hendrik Janse van Rensburg, Howard Crouch, Ewald Zierwogel and Paul Geoffrey.

The Wednesday competition was won on 48 points by Chris Boyce and James Coull, two ahead of Mark Smith and Daan Swanepoel, who were a further two ahead of Sheldon van der Merwe and Smittie Stieger. The business day last Friday, sponsored by Donnee Spring Water, was won by Christo Janse van Vuuren, Niel Retief, Rudi and Ilse Steyn on 93 points. Runners-up were Cilla Lindsay, Yzelle Greyling, Jennifer Duncan and Cecelia Verster on 89 points, by one from Mark Smith, George Bowie, Bruce Holmes and Allan Rowley. The competition last Saturday was won by Peter Stoppel and Bruce Holmes on 49 points, by four from Leon Reeders and Chris Boyce. Two further adrift were Sandy Burger and Terry Kotze.

* At Southbroom Golf Club the Noelle Edwards Trophy was won by Candida Amm and Sue Kupisiewicz on 45 points, from Lee Mutch and Della Kempthorne on 43 points. In a tie for third place on 42 points were Coleen Anderson and Jean Corfe, as well as Carol Lamb and Sharon Turnbull-Jackson.

In the men’s competition, the winners on 48 points were Richard Bridgeford and Norman Jeffery, with Roger Hissey and Roy Deakins next on 46 points.

In third place were Bob O’Callaghan and Alex Crawford on 44 points, followed by Ant Hughes and Peter Leeming on 43 points, tied with Clive Miller and Malcolm Greenland. The alliance last Saturday was won on 91 points by Shelly Myers, Irene Schanda, Lynne Blackstock and Di Morris. Runners-up were Rene Matthew, Jeanette Peyios, Heleen Hissey and Lesley Godley on 90 points. In a tie for third place on 88 points were Janet Humphrey, Candida Amm, Solange Fox and Jill Webster, as well as Della Kempthorne, Sharon Turnbull-Jackson, Lee Mutch and Carol Lamb, and Roger Hissey, Malcolm Moorley, D Gibson and Nic Sproule. Chicken Run: Alex Crawford 21 pts, Chris Miller 19 pts, Van Zyl Greyling 18 pts, Peter Kupisiewicz 17 pts, Phil Verwey 17 pts.

* At Margate CC last Thursday’s competition was won on 37 points by Robin Shuttleworth, by three from Craig Rademan. The Saturday competition was won on 49 points by Rob Weyer and Graeme Massam, by five from Hans Beilhartz and Arthur Ehlert, who counted out Flip Fourie and Joe Espach.
