It was an impressive catch for Steven Moodley of Palmview who reeled in a 38kg salmon while fishing off Margate Pier last Friday.
“I used live shad as bait and it took me 30 minutes to bring in the fish,” he said.
Steven said he did not expect to go fishing before his big catch because of windy weather.
However, as he fishes everyday, it seems the lure of the sea was too strong to resist.

Last Saturday, he caught a 6kg garrick, using live shad as bait, also off Margate Pier.
Steven is founder of the Hardthrow Fishing Club which boasts about 400 members on the Lower South Coast.
Due to its popularity, the club has also extended its reach to Durban where it has a fair number of members.
