Men’s KZN Interclub swings into town

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the entries are not as high as usual, but still, golfers are just pleased to be able to get out there and play some competitive golf again.

The men’s KwaZulu-Natal Interclub tournament will be taking place at three golf courses this weekend, namely Margate CC, Port Shepstone CC and San Lameer CC.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the entries are not as high as usual, but still, golfers are just pleased to be able to get out there and play some competitive golf again.

Meanwhile, the month of October saw the re-emergence of Phiwa Mkhoma to tournament play, with a win at Port Shepstone Country Clubs strokeplay championships.

He shot 76 and 82 and dedicated the win to his father Gerald, who has had some major health challenges for the past while.

“He was the one who introduced me to the sport and for that I will always be grateful,” said Phiwa.

After the game he went to visit his father in hospital and then returned to the club later.

The A division was won by Santhos Baskali on scores of 77 and 80. He took a cart which unfortunately meant he could not win the overall championship.

Runner-up was Gavin van Wyk on 82 and 80.

B division honours went to Jaco Buitendag on 83 and 89, on a countout from past champion Daan Swanepoel, who had 88 and 84.

In the C division, the winner was Johann du Plessis on 194 with Graham Dickson in second place three shots behind.

Emerging talent Kai Hielckert won the junior division on scores of 79 and 83.

Veteran’s winner was Rubby Dullay.
