‘Tweenager’ Jaden creates tennis club history

Jaden Jesson, just 12 years old, has become the youngest women's singles champion ever at Umtentweni Tennis Club.

Jaden Jesson, just 12 years old, has become the youngest women’s singles champion in Umtentweni Tennis Club‘s history.

She did this by beating Sally Pillay in a thrilling final, score 7-5, 2-6 and 6-3.

The reaction from the members was ‘wow!’ as she showed serious mettle.

She was wished well by everyone including Sally, who put up a wonderful fight.

They all look forward to seeing Jaden enjoy more success as she plays in junior tournaments in Durban and beyond.

There was another tough battle on the cards for Sally as she and Natasha Cotterell then went on to play the women’s doubles final against Cathy Kirton and Liesl Smith.

It was once again a three-setter with Cathy and Liesl emerging the winners 6-4, 2-6 and 6-3.

There will be a bring-and-braai on October 31, following the prize-giving for the championships.

Members are requested to put their names on the salad list at the clubhouse.

The special general meeting is also on the 31st at 4pm.
