Golfers’ games go to the dogs

There was a fun putting competition, as well as a number of lucky draw prizes, plus a quilt auction which raised R12 000.

The SPCA’s annual golf day fundraiser took place at Southbroom Golf Club last Saturday, with a good field showing up and a great vibe on the day.

The men’s section saw Derick Pieterse and Clive Miller take first prize on 47 points, by one from Bernie Vorster and Harry Devenish.

In third spot were Andy Bossard and Werner Duggan.

Fourth place was shared by four pairs, namely Craig Treherne and André Steyn, André and Leeanne Ollewagen, James Kilgour and Howard Kelly, as well as Sanjay Singh and Dr Ayoob Bux.

In the ladies section, winners were Candida Amm and Jean Corfe on 44 points, followed by Solange Fox and Rene Matthew on 43 points.

Third place went to Irene Schanda and Shelley Myers on 42 points, with Michelle van der Hoek and Rita Kinghorn next on 40 points, one ahead of Sandy Fitzgerald and Jean Cole.

Best playing fourball prize went to Colin McKay, Malcolm Greenland, Derick Pieterse and Clive Miller on 89 points.

Nearest the pins: André Ollewagen (4th), Simon Lee (8th), Andy Bossard (11th), Russell Mackenzie (12th for 2), Pete Leeming (14th).

Longest drive: Shivan Ramlahal and Shelley Myers.

At Port Shepstone Country Club, the men’s competition last Wednesday was won by Rob Piers on 38 points, by one from Phil Myburgh. Chris Boyce was third on 37 points.

It was Monthly Mug time last Saturday, with the overall prize going to Rudi Steyn on nett 70.

Individual Stableford winner was Liana Klopper on 38 points, counting out Yeshvan Sampathmany.

Colin Nel won the A division on nett 71, with Phiwa Mkhoma next on nett 73. Kirk Larsen was third on nett 74.

Charles Hulley won the B division on nett 73, counting out Gerald Koch.

Daan Swanepoel was third on nett 73.

Brett Pollington took the honours in the C division on nett 71, by one from Lionel Peters, with Gary Vogt a further point shot off the pace.

Best gross went to Phiwa Mkhoma on nett 73.

At Margate CC, the women played Medal and Putt, which was won on nett 75 by Sandi Johnston, followed by Beryl Williamson on nett 77.

Una McLachlan had the least putts for the day with 27.
