Umkomaasters take Alliance League trophy

Second place on 86 points was Ocean View, Nigel Hensen, Marc Bezencon, Raj Rampathy and Russel Heine.

The final Alliance League match was played last week Saturday, and all golfers enjoyed a scrumptious snack basket, sponsored by Bruce Sutcliffe, with their drinks at prizegiving.

Umkomaasters Nelson Moonsamy, Saga Reddy, Jacques Kirstein, and Barrie Taylor were announced the 2020 Alliance league champions with a total score of 620 points.

Their consistency paid off and they gents each walked away with cash and their names on the trophy.

The Die Hards came in second with 611 points, and third place was snapped up by the Straight Hitters who accumulated 603 points over the course of the competition.

The final Alliance League match was won by the Lords of the Pins, the husband-wife combination of Russel and Evija McKelvey and Peter and Linda Toward who waltzed in on a magnificent 95 points. Me thinks the handicapper will be chopping some handicaps soon.

Second place on 86 points was Ocean View, Nigel Hensen, Marc Bezencon, Raj Rampathy and Russel Heine.

Four players – Patrick Ndlovu, Russell Heine, Sabiha Bacaus, and Natalie Singer – represented Umkomaas at the 2020 Champion of Champions hosted by Kloof Country Club last weekend.

The heavy rain in the previous week left the course muddy and playing extra long so scores were generally poor on Saturday.

Sabiha produced the best round of the four on Saturday, trailing the lady leader by just five shots.

Sunday dawned with sunshine and whilst conditions were generally drier, the blazing sun and later tee times served up a different type of challenge.
Sadly, each of the players turned in poorer scores than Saturday, chalking this year’s competition up to experience.

Umkomaas will be hosting a Carols by Candlelight this Friday, (11th) from 7pm and visitors are especially welcome.

Food and drinks will be available and it’s a family friendly affair so bring everyone down.
