Outstanding results for Blue Ocean swimmers

Nelzaan swam the distance in a 41.12 minutes and placed ninth overall in the women’s event.

Blue Ocean Aquatics swimmers took part in the annual Capital K open water swim at Midmar Dam recently.

Nelzaan Strydom and Mandy Koegelenberg braved the 3km event at 7am in the morning when the weather was perfect for a fast race, with no wind and calm water.

Nelzaan swam the distance in a 41.12 minutes and placed ninth overall in the women’s event.

Mandy swam the 3km in 48.35 minutes and placed third in the 41 to 50 year category.

With these results, Nelzaan and Mandy qualify to swim at SA national open water championships in March next year.

After the 3km event, it was the 1km event for all the swimmers with some taking part for the first time in an open water event.

The following raced the 1km event: Nelzaan Strydom, George Annandale, Tharien Venter, Bianca Berman, Enzo and Everraud Raynard, Winé Koekemoer and Tehl-Cadi Day Garden and Peter Koegelenberg swam the 500m fun swim.

Enzo and Everraud Raynard where the first nine and 10 year old swimmers out the water respectively in the KZN registered 1km event.

Congratulations to Elizabeth Ballack and James Fisher for qualifying as level 3 swimmers in the 200m backstroke and 100m breaststroke events respectively at the Aquazone gala held recently in Hillcrest.
