Double shark catch just what doctor ordered

Summer time usually sees an increase in shark catches.

Fishing friends Hugo Botha and Dr John van Reenen both landed sharks while fishing at Lee Rock in Margate recently.

Hugo, who has been fishing for as long as he can remember, caught a blacktip reef shark that weighed in at13.54 kg, while van Reenen caught a hammerhead that weighed13.97 kg.

Like many fishermen, Hugo expressed the need for extreme levels of patience when it comes to fishing.

“You need to try and try again. If you put in the time and effort, you will get rewarded,” he said.

It may come as a slight surprise to some that Hugo would catch a shark.

He is a member of a fresh water fishing club and they generally target carp in dams.

However, he enjoys all forms of fishing.

“I love fishing and try to go as much as possible, but work always comes first, of course,” he said.
