Bogeys strike as Scottburgh GC’s garages burgled

Wednesday saw a return to Individual Stableford and Mike Eley took full advantage by returning 38 points to easily win by three from Denis Brown and Alan Eriksen, both on 35 with Denis getting the nod in the countout.

It seems there’s a gang going round the town breaking in to outside garages and stealing tools, especially in the Margaret Avenue area.

Unfortunately, it was the turn of Scottburgh Golf Club last week, so if you have any spare tools you’re not using, any donation would be greatly appreciated.

Some good news, however was that Jason Gilliver managed third place at Beachwood in the recent KZN Invitational, although nothing less than a win satisfies him.

Dave Sirey ‘won’ the Stone and there were no 2-clubs and the hidden holes are still away.

The ladies joined the men on Saturday for the monthly P&G Construction Betterball Stableford.

This was the first game under the new handicap rules where we now get a percentage of handicap depending on the format.

It didn’t make any difference to Hans Beuthe P&G Construction Betterball Stableford and Tony Power as they scored 43 points to win the whisky.

Dave Sirey handed back the Stone and upped his game and, along with Flinky Dreyer, managed 42 for second with John Mills and Hilton McAuliffe third with 40.

Dave Sirey then handed the Stone over to stand-in captain, Coenie du Bruyn, and his partner Herman Grotius.

The two Mikes, Bremner and Eley, both had 2-clubs and the least said about the hidden holes the better, but we will catch them.

St Patrick’s Day on March 17 will be celebrated with Tony Power sponsoring the day and probably giving back some of his prize winnings.

Flyer’s footnote: There are three ways of learning golf; by study which is most wearisome; by imitation which is most fallacious and by experience which is most bitter.
