Husband and wife team crowned Betterball League champions
It was another great week for Umkomaas in terms of league results.
The final instalment of the six-month long Betterball League at Umkomaas Golf Club took place last Saturday and despite benign conditions, many of the leading teams struggled to improve their position.
Luckily, only four of the six games’ scores were factored to determine the outright leaderboard.
Emerging victorious was husband and wife team Russel and Evija McKelvey who have both been on a great run of golf.

With just one point separating winners, runners-up, and third place, some will be ruing their lack of inspiration/missed putts, in the final two games.
Runners-up were Patrick Ndlovu and Riek Jansen van Rensburg, and third place was awarded to father-daughter duo Devlyn Fraser and Natalie Singer.
Saturday’s final competition winners were Jacques Kirstein and Saga Reddy who continued to be the captains of consistency, winning with 43 points.
Second, third and fourth place were decided on a count-out 41 points.
Runners-up were Riek Jansen van Rensburg and Patrick Ndlovu, third place Steve Oliver and Mike Dennison, and fourth place Willie and Sue Boucher.
It was another great week for Umkomaas in terms of league results.
This time it’s the turn of the men’s Allerton League side who hosted Central Durban on Sunday.
The format has been altered to exclude foursomes due to current Covid-19 golfing regulations.

The team of Gregg Andersson, Russel McKelvey, Vivian and Tash Naicker, Moonsamy Nelson, Christopher Pillay, Saga Reddy and Bruce Sutcliffe, utilised their home advantage well, securing five wins and a half in the singles to win 5.5-2.5.
Compliments on the course have been coming in thick and fast and we strongly encourage those who’ve not played Umkomaas recently to join us.
