Gauteng team reels in big win

Each team consisted of three anglers including the captain.

The Natal Deep Sea Angling Association held a gamefish interprovincial competition, hosted by the Pennington Ski-boat Club, from May 13 to 16.

A total of seven teams took part, with anglers representing KZN, Zululand, Southern Gauteng and Northern Gauteng.

Chais Gaul, representing the Natal U21 team, with a 22.47kg couta.

Each team consisted of three anglers including the captain.

All anglers have their provincial colours and are now competing in the hopes of being chosen for a South Africa Deep Sea Angling Association team to fish at a nationals where anglers are then further selected for their Protea colours.

The team standings for the competition are as follows: 1 Southern Gauteng (Neil Coetzer, Richard Hartley and Ockie Theunissen); 2 KwaZulu-Natal U21 (Chais Gaul, Dylan Westoby and Ryan Pellew); 3 Zululand (Shaun Aspden, Jean Schoonhoven and Dirk Rosslee).

In terms of skippers, Evan Antel of Take a Break took first place.

Second place went to Nick ‘Buffalo’ Fourie of Triple T followed by Derek Johnson of Blue Marlin.
