Viv Naicker wins monthly mug
Viv managed to count-out Wayne Addison and Saga Reddy, taking second and third respectively.
It was rather strange resuming level 4 lockdown restrictions at Umkomaas Golf Club this past weekend with club members playing their golf, readjusting to putting with flags in, and leaving immediately afterwards with no opportunity for prizegiving or photos of the winners.
Sadly, our ladies SCR championship was also postponed until later in the year, given our commitment to supporting efforts to #staysafe and fight the third wave.
The medal competition was well supported with 62 players in the field. Winter conditions proved challenging, especially keeping it on the greens which are running beautifully… if a little quicker than we’re used to.
Viv Naicker was awarded the monthly mug with the best overall net amongst all players in the various divisions. Well done Viv!
The A division was a tight affair with three players finishing better than their handicaps on 37 points. Viv managed to count-out Wayne Addison and Saga Reddy, taking second and third respectively.
The B division was also hotly contested and Brian Stephen’s on par performance of 36 points earned him first place. Second and third were determined by count-out on 35 points, with Steve Oliver pipping Neil de Villiers.
Norman Mackay beat Alwyn Stander on a count-out on 33 points, and it was an exceptional 20-metre putt for par on the Stroke 1 third hole that did it! Vash Gounden took third place on 31 points.
Sue Boucher played to her handicap with a nett 73 to take the ladies division first prize, followed closely by Evija McKelvey on nett 74.
The youngsters attending KidzGolf are showing real promise and their skills are improving weekly. Several of them have already begun playing in the 6-pin competitions and we encourage them to keep working towards getting a handicap.
Sadly, due to Covid-19 restrictions, KidzGolf is on a hiatus. We look forward to resuming our Saturday morning sessions soon.
