Single-minded Tisch can’t quite double up
There were some hard-fought matches especially in the men's singles and doubles events.
The championships at Tweni Tennis Club have almost been completed with all the main draw matches finished and just the men’s singles back-draw final scheduled for Saturday at 12:30 on and the men’s doubles back-draw matches (to be arranged by the players involved) still to be played.
There were some hard-fought matches especially in the men’s singles and doubles events.
Tisch Roos emerged victorious over Darral Pillay in the singles with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win.
In the men’s doubles, the more experienced Dan Dimitriu and Ian Ackerman managed to find the right shots at the right moments in order to defeat Tisch Roos and Rob Browne in a thrilling three-setter, with the score being 2-6, 7-5 and 6-4.
The women’s singles was won by Liesl Smith who defeated Cathy Kirton in the final.
Sally Pillay and Anneli Mey won the women’s doubles and Tisch Roos and Liesl Smith beat Darral and Sally Pillay in the mixed doubles.
Congratulations to all the winners. Prize-giving will take place once the Covid restrictions have been lifted.
Special mention must be made of our ‘resident’ umpire, Martin Pratt, who was an absolute star whenever an umpire was requested.
The concentration needed for this difficult task is enormous and Martin managed to stay focused throughout the matches.
Thank you for your sterling effort, Martin.
