Jooste and Barnard bear the cold for a win

The men however had a good turnout for the monthly medal sponsored by your Local Choice pharmacy on Scott street.

Anybody not wearing longs today hasn’t got any, was one comment as we stood on the first tee at Scottburgh Golf Club last Wednesday, the rest are unprintable.

A few of the local yokels claimed it was the coldest they’d known, but memories are pretty short amongst the grey hairs.

Wednesday was pretty cold and the biting wind didn’t help, but Deane Jooste and Johan Barnard weathered the conditions and with 42 points and managed a win – now Deane can pay his Stoney fines.

John Mills and Thys Swart managed 40 for a second place and Deane also had the only 2-club so that can also go into the kitty.

Mike Eley and Roly Tickle, having grown up in the northern hemisphere, didn’t take too kindly to the cold and will be paying the piper when we get the chance.

I only saw four ladies on Saturday so I assume the rest were shopping.

The men however had a good turnout for the monthly medal sponsored by your Local Choice pharmacy on Scott street.

The weather once again looked ‘iffy’ but it turned out a pleasant afternoon with only what the northern counties people call ‘nesh’ players staying at home.

Nice to see Shaun Jenkins back again and he took the A division gross with a 79 with ever present Barry Kisten scoring 75 for the nett prize, but where were the rest of the A division players?

Captain Bob Hall had an 83 for the B division gross and Brian Richards had 66 to win the nett and the medal for July.

In the C division, Willy Creaney had 35 points to win by one from Anton Visage.

The Alliance was won by two already mentioned winners Brian Richards and Anton Visage partnered by Wayne Simpson and Tony Power.

Captain Bob found the hidden holes with Hilton McAuliffe and Morne van Eck rolling in 2-clubs.

The lighties team of Gareth Walker, Lloyd Treherne, Brandon Joubert and Tyron Pontes got on the scoresheet by having the fewest points in the Alliance and all contributions to the Stone are warmly received.

Wednesday is a combined Stableford and on Saturday a betterball Stableford for the P&G Construction sponsored game.

Flyer’s footnote: The biggest liars in the world are those golfers who claim they only play golf for the exercise.
