In ‘tuna’ with fishing

Meanwhile Warren also landed a 26.5kg catch, also a yellowfin tuna.

Brothers Shane and Warren Somerville of Uvongo achieved their personal bests while fishing at Protea Banks in Shelly Beach last weekend.

Shane reeled in an 18.7kg yellowfin tuna commonly known as a ‘gas bottle’.

Shane Somerville of Uvongo displays his 18.7kg yellowfin tuna that he caught just past Protea Banks in Shelly Beach.

“Actually it had been a cracker week for the tuna with the Easterly wind that has been blowing lately. My boet and I both nailed some quality fish,” Shane said.

Meanwhile Warren also landed a 26.5kg catch, also a yellowfin tuna.

“The fish picked my jig up around 30m off the bottom and started peeling off line. Once it had quit running and finally turned around, I managed to eventually get it up to the boat with an extensive series of short lifts, gaining only a single turn of the handle with each drop,” Warren said.
