Herald Fishing: This week’s ‘reel’ catches

His Poisedon5 rod and Sl50 reel were able to withstand the tug of war that ensued, which was enough to reel it in.

This week’s biggest catch came in from Marina Beach, with Sandile Khumalo of Gcilima reeling in a 12.2kg garrick.

Using a triple hook and 5.0 sensation hook, Sandile tussled with the big fish after managing to get a bite on his line, using live bait shad.

Jermaine ‘Jembos’ Govender of Port Shepstone shows his 2kg bronze bream that he caught in Southport over the weekend.

Further up the coastline, in Southport, Jermaine ‘Jembos’ Govender of Port Shepstone caught a 2kg bronze bream out at sea, much to his enjoyment.

Displaying his majestic 12.2kg Garrick is Sandile Khumalo, who caught the fish at Marina Beach over the weekend.

Jembos, who is also a member of the Hardthrow Fishing Club with Sandile, said he enjoys catching bronzies.

“It was a good day fishing and while I do catch these fairly often, I always appreciate a good bronzie biting the line,” he said.
