Practice pays off for Rory
This win comes just days after the news that Rory has been selected to represent KZN U13 at the team championship to be played at ERPM (Gauteng) from October 5-7.
Rory Bernardis shot an impressive three-over-par 76 gross at Royal Durban Golf Club last weekend to win the 11 to 12 year-old boys SA Kids Golf competition.
Playing off a 10 handicap currently, Rory is a great example that practice pays off. He and twin brother Jordan, along with cousins Noah Rudwick and Damian O’Connell, can be found out on the course seven days a week, honing their skills under the watchful eye of their oupa/coach Willie O’Connell.

He will join Sabiha Bacaus-Hulley who will also be competing that week in the black and white at the Ladies Inter Provincial Tournament in Cape Town.
Kloof Country Club proved once again that it can be a mean course as men’s and ladies club champions from around the province competed for the coveted title of Champion of Champions.
Umkomaas had three representatives competing who, like majority of the field judging by the very high scores across the board, struggled with hard bounces and tricky greens.
Sabiha Bacaus-Hulley finished ninth in the Ladies division, whilst Russell Heine finished tied 17th and Patrick Ndlovu 28th in the men’s division.
Thirty-nine players competed in the waltzing alliance last Saturday and the lovely rains earlier in the week certainly greened up the golf course.
Coming in first place on 80 points were Wally Kent, Ken Koster, Neil De Villiers, and Nigel Hensen.
Runners-up on 77 points were Dave Kemp, Evija McKelvey, Robbie Matthias, and Gustav Schmidt.
Despite the annual spring treatment being delayed a day due to the heavy rain earlier in the week, the course was obviously playing well as Tom Naicker shot an outstanding 78 gross to score 45 points and take the weekly IPS competition’s top prize.
The Heritage long weekend is fast approaching, and Umkomaas Golf Club will be hosting the annual Aliwal Stroll competition.
Tee times can be booked via the Pro Shop.
