Shane Somerville of Uvongo recently headed out on a rather windy afternoon with one of the local skippers, PJ Botha senior.
The trip was great for Shane, who caught a nice 22kg tuna out on Protea Banks. The next morning, however, was not so pleasant.

“I herniated two disks in my lower spine when I bent forward to put my tackle box into a bucket while getting ready for my next trip. At 05:00 in the morning I found myself having an ‘intimate moment’ with the floor, trying to figure our what on earth had just happened to me,” he said, jokingly.
“It took me 20 minutes to get from lying on my stomach, to being on my hands and knees, and from there I was stuck and I couldn’t get up at all.”
Thankfully, he’s making a speedy recovery and is almost ready to head back out to sea.

In other fishing news Lara Bouverie of Harding recently caught a stunning 43kg copper steenbras at a secret location.
She wasn’t the only one to enjoy a decent catch, with Verren Soorijlal (Vees) reeling in a 12kg garrick at Sandspit beach in Port Shepstone during a stint of gloomy weather, which failed to put him off.
“I used sardine bait, a 1.0mm Daiichi hook and a 13ft bluefish rod,” explained Verren.

The Albersville resident is an avid fisherman on the coast and was ecstatic with his catch.
