Patel lights up friendly with quick-fire century

Before the local cricket season kicks off officially this weekend, the Southern KwaZulu-Natal team played two T20 friendlies against a visiting Umzinto team at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday.

In the first game batting first Southern KZN made 219 for 3 in 20 overs with Ashley Lombard making 94 and Suhel Patel 101 not out.

In reply Umzinto made 85 for 7 with Gavin Reddy scoring 43. Bryce Allchin had figures of 4-12 and Raja 3-8, giving Southern KZN victory by 134 runs.

In the second game Umzinto batted first scoring 121 with K Govender making 49.

Gareth Pieterse, with 2-24, and Gershion Lawrence, with 2-16, were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, Southern KZN scored 124 for 2 with Bilal Hasan (49) and Pakamile Zokvpa (38 not out) knocking the runs off, giving Southern KZN l victory by eight wickets and a 2-0 series win.
