Neil and Lyn crowned mixed champions
This year's theme was 'Black & White', a simple yet elegant look.
The eighth Southbroom Mixed Classic, won by Neil Crossey and Lyn Doveton, has come and gone.
“In another crazy year with many ups and downs, we happily found ourselves between the dreaded Covid ‘waves’ and able to host a fairly restriction-free event,” said golf director Derek James.
This year’s theme was ‘Black & White’, a simple yet elegant look.
“In the week leading up to the Classic this year the heavens opened and Southbroom had around 230mm worth of rain in seven days. Fortunately come Saturday, the clouds disappeared and were quickly replaced with bright, blue skies,” said James.
This was coupled with a very strong south-westerly wind and, along with the very damp conditions, made for a difficult golf course.
Crossey and Doveton scored 76 points (37 and 39 over the two days) to win by one from Alti and Binny Stephen.
John Fox and Irene Schanda finished in third place, with last year’s winners Andreas Bossard and Eli Bachmann in fourth and Grant and Erica Walker rounding out the top five with 72 points.
The players coped with the weather very well, especially on Sunday when it really tested their collective resolve.
The club put on a wonderful medley of roasts which the players enjoyed after their rounds of golf with some light entertainment.
