From the bowling greens: Brian and Pam broker a win

TWENI
The Abingdon KwikSpar mixed trips bowls competition took place at the Tweni last Monday and was won by Dumisani Madlala, Jean Celliers and Andrew Calitz.
Dennis Graham, Graham Cole and Jan Anderson finished the day in second place, while the session prize went to Rob Singery, Vernon Strauss and Mari Strauss. Big thanks to sponsors.
SOUTHBROOM
The JL Panelbeaters’ men’s fours were hosted at the Southbroom Bowling Club and was won by Brian Douthwaite, Alan Gibson, Trevor Heywood and Hans van der Walt.
In second place were Tony Waters, Cleve Walker, Glenn Hatfield and Rhett Butler with Gary Hess and his team finishing third.
Brian’s team also won the last round of the competition played last Friday, Jerry Davey standing in for the Covid-hit Alan Gibson. Southbroom took over the highly popular competition when Margate Country Club’s bowling section closed in 2019.
THE BELL
Winners of the open trips played last week sponsored by 3rd Avenue restaurant were Wayne and Amanda Taylor with Monica Middlewick. Finishing second was the trio of Hans and Dina van der Walt with Hugo Pio. Third place went the way of Jane Massam, Rentie Stephens and Sandy Shepard.

Topping the rankings in the inaugural Hibiscus Brokers mixed ultra pairs were Pam and Brian Cole-Cook of Banner’s Rest. They edged out John Kepler and Leoni Booth.
The popular three-skin format – in which each player leads, skips and plays 2-4-2 – was played monthly throughout the year at Southbroom Bowling Club. The final round, played last Sunday, was won by Mike Lyall and Helen Proctor; runners up were John Kepler and Leoni Booth.
