Junior golfers do club proud

In the first game, the KZN Lower South Coast champs played at Port Shepstone on December 19, Rory Bernardis shot 81 gross of an 8 handicap and won the best nett in the A division.

Over the school holidays, Umkomaas Golf Club juniors Rory and Jordan Bernardis, Noah Rudwick and Damien O’Connell competed in several KwaZulu-Natal Foundation competitions.

The boys had great fun and built on their golfing experience, especially as Rory and Jordan, aged 12, played in their first u18 A division competitions.

Damien (16) also competes in the A division whilst Noah (13) plays in the B division. The boys are dedicated and can be seen out on the course practising every day under the watchful eye of coach Oupa Willie.

In the first game, the KZN Lower South Coast champs played at Port Shepstone on December 19, Rory Bernardis shot 81 gross of an 8 handicap and won the best nett in the A division.

It was Noah’s turn to take home the prizes – best nett B division – at the second event, Natal Schools’ Athlone Trophy played at Mount Edgecombe on January 10.

The Cameron Murray Memorial was played at Kloof Country Club last Wednesday and this time the twins came in, Rory shot 79 (off 9 handicap) to win the best nett in the A division, whilst Jordan won the best gross in the B division with an 80.

The final competition, the Shelagh Digby Trophy was contested at Durban Country Club last Thursday in very hot conditions, which saw Jordan Bernardis win a third place best nett.

It is wonderful to see how the youngsters are coming on with their golf and exciting to see some of the KidzGolf members working towards getting their handicaps, so that they too can enjoy this wonderful game.

KidzGolf starts January 22 at 08:00.

EGTF qualified coach Devlyn Fraser, assisted by his daughter Natalie who is herself a single figure golfer, provide group lessons to boys and girls between the ages of six and 18.
