Heat takes toll on players at alliance competition

In second place were Dave Mulroy, Bryony Rodgers, Russel and Evija McKelvey on 82 points.

A total of 59 players battled the sweltering heat in the first Alliance competition for 2022 at Umkomaas Golf Club last Saturday.

Judging by the scores, it seems the heat really took its toll. And, until the final few fourballs came in, it appeared that a score in the 70s was going to take top honours, a rarity for sure particularly as the golf course is in excellent nick.

Taking top honours were Riek Jansen van Rensburg, Mickey Eriksen and Jacques and Sabiha Hulley who amassed 84 points, very respectable given that they don’t have too many shots between them.

In second place were Dave Mulroy, Bryony Rodgers, Russel and Evija McKelvey on 82 points.

After a spike in Covid-19 in the area in December last year, the Ladies Christmas Alliance was postponed, but the club is delighted to announce that the sponsored Ladies Alliance will be taking place at the end of the month.

Tee times are available on January 29 from 10:30 and there are wonderful prizes up for grabs.

Competition fee includes a snack platter and visitors are most welcome.

To secure your tee time, contact Francois or Charmaine in the pro shop on 039 973 1042 or info@umkomaasgolf.co.za
