Younger golfers sign up at Umkomaas
The first KidzGolf session for 2022 was held last Saturday and is gaining in popularity with nearly 30 youngsters signed up for the coming year.
Forty players took on the heat again in the betterball Stableford at Umkomaas Golf Club last Saturday.
The course was in fabulous condition and the greens were excellent. Winners were decided by count-out on 43 points and Dave Kemp and Robbie Mathias emerged victorious over John Webster and Harold Horsley.
Third place, on 42 points were Neil De Villiers and Brian Kassel. Fourth place involved a four-way count out on 40 points with twins Rory and Jordan Bernardis taking the last prize on offer.
The jackpot proved elusive for the third week in a row – best get someone else to pick the hole numbers next time! Two clubs were achieved by Brian Stephen, Steve Oliver and Jeremy Boyd.
Harold Horsley’s 39 points secured him top honours over a big field last Wednesday. Second place was Wally Kent on 38 points with Richard Anderson beating Rex Clark via count-out on 37 points for third place.

It was wonderful to see the excitement of both new and returning KidzGolfers, including four girls this year.
Newcomers started with the basics and judging by the speed at which some of the participants picked things up, including getting the ball in the air after just one lesson from coach Dev, we have some budding golfers in the mix.
The 2022 UGC calendar is out and there are some wonderful competitions, including our annual Alliance and Betterball leagues, on the schedule.
The Betterball League kicks off on February 12 and the Alliance League on February 26. Teams can sign up on the day, or by contacting Francois or Charmaine in the Pro Shop 039 9731042.
This Saturday (29th) is the previously postponed Christmas Alliance, which is a sponsored fourball alliance competition run by the ladies section.
There are always fantastic prizes on offer and a superb atmosphere at the club after the event. There are still tee times available, including for those who are looking for a game and don’t have a team.
