Tennis duo to tackle national seniors tournament

The club is proud to have Ian and Raj representing it and are confident that both will do well.

Two of the Umtentweni Tennis Club’s finest players, Ian Ackerman and Raj Naganna will be heading to the Groenkloof Tennis Club in Pretoria to battle in the Tennis South Africa (TSA) sanctioned and ITF Growthpoint Seniors National Tournament from March 5 to 9.

Ian will be competing in 70+ men’s age group where he will be contesting both singles and doubles, while Raj will be competing in the 75+ age group where he will also be contesting both singles and doubles.

The club is proud to have Ian and Raj representing it and are confident that both will do well.

It is also blessed to have Ian and Raj amongst its ranks, as they are always willing to get on the court and share their abundance of experience with fellow members.

Last Saturday saw about 12 members arrive at the club for the regular social tennis session. The clouds began to build and sure enough down came the rain.

No sooner had the rain stopped, and Liesel located the club’s super spongers. Members mopped up the courts to make them safe to play, and play they certainly did, in fact at one point, a three-a-side match took place.

There was some great tennis with buckets of fun which was truly special, with the Tweni club spirit at its very best.

Condolences to the family of Steve Blakemore who died recently.

New member Sharn Zietsman is welcomed and the club is happy to have Justin Hinchliff back on the courts again.
