Steven, Nadia take honours at fresh water fishing compo
The day started off with a fishing compo at one of the nearby farm dams, from 07:00 till 14:00.
The South Coast Fresh Water Angling Club had its ‘year-end’ function and prize-giving at Stoneybrook in Kokstad recently. The day started off with a fishing compo at one of the nearby farm dams, from 07:00 till 14:00.
The club members arrived at Stoneybrook in the rain. Rivers were all in flood and conditions not good. The club had a braai Friday evening and after that the spirits were high for the last club compo of the year.
As the dam conditions were bad, the fishing was nearly cancelled. But pegs were drawn and off they went. The day started with a decent-sized carp being caught.

The weigh-in proved interesting and suspense filled as nobody knew what the other anglers would weigh in. Because of Covid regulations, only a witness, the angler and the weigh master were present.
With that done and dusted the fishermen headed back in a big convoy to Stoneybrook, where a sheep on the spit was being prepared. At prize-giving, nobody, not even the chairman, knew the results for the year (April 2021 to March 2022). Sponsors were thanked, namely Lake Eland, Assupol Life and Luckys.
The club is registered, open to all, with members enjoying social and league fishing. A carp safari is planned for somewhere upcountry in winter, June or July.
