Doubles delight for Black family

Jason Black and his partner won the Gauteng Mini-Doubles Open Tennis Tournament.

For Umtentweni Tennis Club members, exciting news has come in from Angus Black.

His son, Jason, and his partner won the Gauteng Mini-Doubles Open Tournament which was held at Groenkloof in Pretoria on March 12.

In the final, they defeated ranked players, Steyn Dippenaar (No. 15) and Luke Clifton (No. 20) 7-6, 2-6 and 10-5 in the super-tie. (Interestingly, Luke’s parents Graham and Theresa are formerly from the South Coast).

It was a new experience for the 6’6″ tall Jason who had to stand against the back fence in order to return Steyn’s service.

Tweni members congratulate Jason – a regular visitor when at the coast.

In regular Saturday tennis there were five courts going, with players on the day including visitors Frik de Jager, Heloise Cloete and Liz Sanderson.

Thoughts are with Darral Pillay who has had preventative knee surgery and will be out of action for around six months.
