André Mey secures triple crown at Tweni champs

Some new names will be going on the honours board this year.

While there was action aplenty at Wimbledon, there was also some championship tennis taking place closer to home, at Umtentweni Tennis Club.

The champs were played over four weeks and delivered some great tennis.

André Mey had a wonderful time of it all, securing victories in the men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles.

In the singles he beat David van Tichelen. In the doubles he teamed up with Raj Naganna to beat Ian Ackerman and Dan Dimitriu, while in the mixed he and Liesl Smith triumphed over Ian Ackerman and Cathy Kirton.

Sally Pillay won the ladies singles, defeating Chantelle Donald.

The ladies doubles was won by Liesl Smith and Natasha Cotterell over Sally Pillay and Chantelle Donald.

The plate section saw up-and-coming 14 year old Hriday Kambaran beat Naren Sunker.

Natasha and Dick Cotterell secured the plate mixed doubles title while Naren Sunker and Morgan Reddy took the men’s doubles plate.

Thanks go to the committee which organised a well run event, namely Chris Connellan, Liesl Smith and Natasha Cotterell, as well as to all who donated prizes.

Winner of the raffle was Warren Jesson.
