Southbroom, Sheppie stay in league hunt

There are some crunch games coming up, featuring the top three teams.

Selborne Park scraped through in another nail-biter to beat hosts Umdoni Park in round three of the Southern KwaZulu-Natal handicap league recently.

They won 6,5-5,5 to keep their unbeaten run intact.

In the other two games, Port Shepstone beat Margate 7,5-4,5 to keep their hopes alive.

Southbroom B beat Southbroom A 10-2 to remain in the hunt as well.

Umdoni Park and Southbroom A have lost two games and are pretty much out of contention to win. Margate have lost all three.

On a lighter note, it was a tough start for two Margate players, and this had nothing to do with the icy weather.

They arrived at Umdoni Park, only to realise their clubs were still at home.

Devoted, if unimpressed wives, couriered the clubs through to Hibberdene, and they eventually got to play.

Turns out the clubs were in a different car, used the day before.

The next round will be intriguing.

It’ll be held at Margate on August 14 where the hosts will play Southbroom A.

Selborne Park will play Port Shepstone and Southbroom B will play Umdoni Park.

The final round will be at Port Shepstone on September 4.

Selborne Park will play Southbroom B, Port Shepstone play Southbroom A and Margate play Umdoni Park.

It could very well come down to match points.

LOG:
Selborne Park 6 (19,5), Southbroom B 4 (22,5), Port Shepstone 4 (19,5), Umdoni Park 2 (20), Southbroom A 2 (14), Margate 0 (12,5).
