Mahabeer and Mills take win and whisky
Results from Scottburgh golfers recent Individual Stableford and sponsored day.
The other day I saw a blue and yellow golf ball, each hemisphere equally coloured.
Once upon a time, you had two choices, Slazenger or Dunlop, white only. Nowadays one ball manufacturer boasts eight different balls, each one having different characteristics for all ranges of players more spin, more distance etc, making the game more interesting or just fuddling the brain?
An Individual Stableford was played in summer weather last Wednesday. John Mills rolled back the years and posted 41 points to secure a 2 point win over second-placed Linda Hall on 39.
Denis Brown came third with 33 and brother Graham had the only 2 club and Mick Marriot got the Stone for his efforts. Friday’s five-pin got the start of the Cape winds and Tony (no surname) managed 11 points followed by Org Viviers on 9.
Saturday promised to be a day of lost balls and causes with the 60km an hour winds ready to blow away the slightest miss hit. P&G Construction were the sponsor with sponsor Paul Tedder playing with partner Captain Bob Hall.
At the end of a most torturous round, Doc Heera Mahabeer and John Mills (again!) managed 38 points to win and take the whisky. Coming second to this unusually low score were visitors Christo Steynvaart and Butch Bailly with 36 beating third-placed Deanne Jooste and Graham Brown into third spot in turn counting out Pete Morris and Hilton McAuliffe for fourth prize.
The good doctor Mahabeer had the only 2 club rattling the flagstick on 10 for an easy tap-in. Once again, Mick Marriot paid the price this time with Herman Grotius assisting to lift the Stone. The ladies were playing in their club championships first round and the results will be here next week.
Coming up on Wednesday is a combined Stableford and your Local Choice Pharmacy will be sponsoring the monthly medal on Saturday. Meanwhile, on Thursday evening, the club will be hosting a wine tasting evening open to all members and locals alike. The R150 cost includes wine tasting and a light meal. Proceeds to go towards the rehabilitation of our borehole. For tickets phone the club on 087 1501312.
