Top amateurs grace Sheppie fairways

The course played quite tough, especially in the strokeplay rounds.

Port Shepstone Country Club hosted the KwaZulu-Natal Amateur from Wednesday to Sunday.

This was won by Christian Kriek (Pretoria CC) who beat Pieter Rossouw (Pearl Valley) 3/2 in the 36 hole final.

Rossouw is the son of former Springbok wing Pieter, aka Slaptjips.

Local hope Gavin Sole (Southbroom), competing against opponents 30 years younger, made it as far as the quarter finals, before losing on the last hole to Rossouw.

Piet Snyman won the Stableford at Port Shepstone Country Club last Tuesday, carding 39 points.

In a tie for second place on 37 points were Stewart Betts and Chris Boyce.

Saturday’s competition, in the howling wind, was won on 37 points by Johann du Plessis.

One behind was Vezu Ngcobo on 36 points, followed by Albert dos Santos on 31 points.

Coming up: Tyson Properties Tidy Towns golf day this Saturday (27th).
