Ladies champ title for Linda Hall at Scottburgh GC
Various matches were played in the past week.
I read last week of the passing of Tom Weiskopf at the age of 79. Tom won 16 times on the tour and famously won the Open at Troon leading from wire to wire. He was runner-up at the Masters on no less than four occasions, always a steady player, another one of the past greats.
Wednesday at the club was a combined Stableford with in form Gary Jones and Mike Eley coming up trumps with 65 points counting out the unfortunate Deanne Jooste and Tony Moore. Not satisfied Deanne also found the hidden holes with Gary and Dudley Palmer making 2 clubs. Friday’s 5 pin was won by Griet Viviers with the low score of 9 points beating second placed Tyron Pontes into second with 7, Jarred Joubert picking up the pocket of ‘almost new’s’.
It was monthly medal time on Saturday sponsored by Local Choice Pharmacy, thanks to Morne van Eck. In the A division Barry Kisten had the best gross with 86 and Matthew Hall the best nett with 89, big scores with the wind being the culprit. In the B division Doc Mahabeer had a 84 gross with Deanne Jooste scoring 71 for the nett prize. Gary Jones again won the C division with 30 points beating runner-up Russel Freeman into second with 25.
Nearest the pins went to Peter Fourie on the 5th and John Mills on the 10th, John rolling in the 2 club along with Wayne Simpson and Jason Gilliver. Jason then led his team of Tyrone Pontes, Mikhail von Braken and Spoekie to the Alliance prize with Tony Moore, Wayne Simpson, Denis Brown and Dudley Palmer winning the right to hold the Stone.
Last weekend, the ladies played their club championships in contrasting weather days. Saturday blew potential good scores away and Sunday made for great golf. Winning the A division and crowned lady champion for 2022 was Linda Hall with Alex Morris runner-up. In the B division Delores McAuliffe hung on to win with Mandy Jones runner-up, Congratulations to the winners and to those who took part.

Coming up on Wednesday is a betterball Stableford and on Saturday the Mthunzi Hotel and Conference Centre are the sponsors, get on the practice tee!
There’s a sick parade this week with Thys Swart not too well and Brian Richards recovering from an op with Tony Power still hobbling around on crutches. We wish them all a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing them at the captain’s table once again.
Flyer’s footnote: Golf is like a love affair – if you don’t take it seriously, it’s not fun, if you do take it seriously it breaks your heart.
